Lobby Renovations – Informational Meeting on Wed Oct 1, 7:30-9:00PM

You are invited to attend an informational meeting on Wed Oct 1st, 7:30-9:00PM regarding our upcoming lobby renovations. The meeting will be held in the 860 lobby.

The lobby renovation project was announced during last year’s shareholder meeting. Since then, the Board has been working with an interior designer, architect and contractor to plan and execute this project. A sub-committee of residents has also been involved throughout the process to provide additional insights and feedback.

This meeting will provide important updates about the renovations, as well as an opportunity to address questions and concerns about potential disruptions. The agenda will include:

– Design overview
– Construction details, including timelines, impact to lobby access, hours of work
– Update about our other energy savings-related capital improvement project (NYSERDA)
– Project financing

Our designer, architect and contractor will be in attendance at this meeting.

If you have any questions, please contact our Managing Agent, Howard Landman, at 212-483-0700 or hlandman@sirenmgt.com or the Board at wghpresident@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing you on Oct 1st.

Volunteers Needed for Watering

Many thanks to those who helped recently with planting and beautifying our building’s tree pits and courtyards. Now we need your assistance in keeping these new flowers and plants looking beautiful in the months ahead!

We’re seeking volunteers to help with watering. We ask that volunteers commit to watering both the 860 and 870 plants a few times per week, for a minimum one-week commitment. Available weeks run through October.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Jenny Castillo Cato at jczouzou5@gmail.com or Ronda Brands at rondamarie_b@yahoo.com

Air Conditioner Installation Guidelines

The Department of Buildings provides guidelines for the safe installation of window air conditioners. The guidelines are below. Even if your AC remained in a window over the winter, please check it to ensure that the installation is still secure.

Please do not ask our building staff to install ACs. If you do not feel confident in doing a proper installation yourself, there are many companies that will do this work for you.

NYC Department of Building Guidelines:
• Make sure the unit is installed securely. Support the unit from underneath, or firmly fasten it from inside with angles. You may use metal brackets, mounting rails, etc.
• Supporting metal brackets, interior angles, etc. should be structurally fastened to the building and must be strong enough for the size and weight of the AC unit.
• Objects or shims used to adjust the position of the AC unit must have an independent source of fastening or attachment.
• Secure leveling objects to prevent movement and shifting due to vibrations from the AC unit, wind and other weather conditions.
• Install the AC unit so it remains in place when the window is opened, or affix it so that the window can’t be opened accidentally.
• Tilt the unit slightly to provide water drainage, but don’t over tilt.
• Do not use loose objects, such as wood blocking, bricks, telephone books, gypsum board or cans, to support the leveling of an AC unit.
• Do not place anything (TV antennae, satellite dishes, plants, etc.) on top of an AC unit.
• Do not block fire escape windows or other exits with the AC unit.

Year-Round Electronics Recycling

A permanent collection area for recycling electronics has been created in the 870 basement. Residents are encouraged to recycle their old and outdated electronics, which will then be brought to citywide electronics recycling sites by building volunteers on a regular basis. The collection area is in the 870 basement, next to the courtyard door.

Energy Survey Reminder

All residents received a survey in late March from the Board requesting information about the heat and water in your apartment. Please complete your survey and return it to the Super’s mailbox (in the 860 lobby) as soon as possible. If you no longer have a copy of the survey, extra copies are available in both building lobbies.

Your feedback from this survey will help the Board make well-informed decisions about the best short- and long-term solutions to address the building’s use of energy. If you have any questions, please email the Board at wghpresident@gmail.com
